Rev. Dr. Taza Green, Sr., Beloved Pastor of Second Baptist Church of Algiers, LA, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 16, 2015 at the age of 56. He was a native and lifelong resident of Algiers, LA (Cut-Off Community). Pastor Green was a graduate of O.P. Walker Senior High School and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from the University of New Orleans; later furthering his education at Union Baptist Theological Seminary. He was employed as an educator with the Jefferson Parish School System, until his retirement in 1994. Realizing there was a higher calling on his life he acknowledged this calling on July 4, 1988 and was ordained in April of 1989. He was installed as Pastor of Second Baptist Church on April 26, 1994 where he served faithfully for over 20 years. Devoted husband of Ira C. Smith Green. Loving father of Taza, Jr. and Tira E. Green and Annaya Hardin whom he reared as a daughter. Grandfather of Triniti and Taza Green, III. Beloved son of Claudette L. Green and the late Thomas Green, Sr. Grandson of Joyce Green and the late Rev. Dr. Earl and Lillian Green, Louis and Olevia Landry. Brother of Thomas, Jr., Thomatra, Sr. (Paulette), Tawn, Sr. (Karen), and Tori, Sr. (Stasia) Green, and Myrna Ancar. Devoted nephew of Geraldine (Eddie) Williams, Rev. Uyless (Emily) Landry, Calvin (Mary) Washington, and Audrey Green. Godson of Yvette Ervin and Zefferieno Magee. Son-in-law of Herman Bienemy, Sr. and the late Geraldine Rose; also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, sisters and brothers-in-law, other relatives and friends, his church family, and the entire Cut-Off Community. Relatives and friends of the family, also officers and members of Second Baptist Church, First Mount Calvary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches; members of Cornerstone General Baptist Association, Pastor Reginald Nicholas, President, Westside Missionary Baptist Association, Pastor Joseph Hampton, President, Louisiana Baptist State Convention, National Baptist Convention USA, Louisiana Home and Foreign Missions Baptist State Convention and all other religious organizations; members of the O.P. Walker Senior High Class of '77; employees of Jefferson Parish School System and Extended Stay America are invited to attend the Musical and Wake Service at Second Baptist Church, 2836 Sullen Place, Algiers, LA on Friday, September 25, 2015 beginning at 6:30.pm. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 10:00a.m., Under Auspices of Cornerstone Missionary General Baptist Association and Westside Missionary Baptist Association.
