Bernadette "Bunny" H. McCaleb Bates, age 62, earned her crown of glory on Sunday, November 1, 2015, as she peacefully passed away. She was a native of Marrero, LA and a resident of Avondale, LA. Bernadette was employed for many years as an employee of the Metropolitan Developmental Center in Belle Chasse, LA. Most recently, Bernadette was a self-employed business owner, operating her own mobile food truck business on the Westbank of Greater New Orleans. Beloved wife of James L. Bates. Loving mother of Peter S. Thompson, Jr. of Richmond, VA and Kennethia L. Bryan. Daughter of the late Patrick Hawkins and Gladys Boudreaux Hawkins. Sister of the late Laverna, Calvin and Jerry Hawkins; also survived by 7 sisters, 2 brothers, 5 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
