Myrtle Johnson, a retired educator, peacefully departed this life on Monday, February 8, 2016 at the age of 80. She was a native and resident of Gretna, LA. Myrtle was a graduate of L.B. Landry High School and continued her studies at Southern University A&M College earning a degree in Elementary Education, where she also became a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. After teaching for several years in both Orleans and Jefferson Parish Public Schools, Myrtle later earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Counseling. She was an avid Saints Football fan and a member of the Jefferson Parish Retired Teachers Association. Loving daughter of the late Celeste and Lazarus Johnson. Sister of the late Lester “Boola” Johnson. Beloved cousin of Bishop James N. (Ellanease) Brown, who also was her caregiver and Pastor. Godmother of Ivy Joe Turner, Keven Riggins, Doris Simon, Dustin Bickham, and De’Nitra Riggins whom she loved like a godchild. Devoted friend of Aletha Perrier; also survived by a host of other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Fischer Community Church, St. Paul Baptist Church, Greater St. Mary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches; employees of Jefferson Parish School Board and Sorors of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Fischer Community Church, 1737 L. B. Landry Ave., New Orleans, LA on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 10:00a.m. Bishop James N. Brown, officiating
