Arthur Joseph Ponson, Sr.

Arthur “AJ” Joseph Ponson, Sr., a retired Carpenter and owner/manager of Ponson Place-A Touch of Elegance Lounge entered into eternal peace at his residence on Monday, February 22, 2016 at the age of 85. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a lifelong resident of Gretna, LA. Beloved husband of the late Doris Butler Ponson. Devoted father of Deanna (Rudy) Smith, Patricia Hockins, Harrietta P. Tipado, Arthur (Roslyn) Ponson, Jr. and Dr. Tommy Ponson. Loving grandfather of Suzette Smith, Joseph (Rose) Tipado III, Courtney (Jomarque) Renthrope, Cherie Ashley, Jahmal Tipado, Kacie Hockins, Arthur Ponson III, and Christopher Bernard. Son of the late Thomas, Sr. and Cecile Reynard Ponson. Brother of the late Marcel, Thomas, Jr., Alvin, Beatrice, Dorothy and Eola. Brother-in-law of Sandra Ponson, Irvin (Altar) Butler, and Joycelyn Owens, also survived by 12 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers and members of Shiloh Baptist Church, St. Paul Baptist Church, New Zion Baptist Church, St. Mary Congregational Church of Abbeville, LA, Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church and all neighboring churches; employees of The City of Gretna, Gretna Police Dept., Entergy, Nicholls State University, Rouses Supermarket, West Jefferson Medical Center, Tonti Properties, and U. S. Postal Service; members of Thursday Nite Crew, West Bank Track Club, Westside Business Association, Westside Old Timers, Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Zulu Social Aide and Pleasure Club and Patrons of Ponson Place are invited to attend a viewing at DAVIS MORTUARY SERVICE, 230 MONROE ST, GRETNA, LA on Sunday, February 28, 2016 from 6p.m.-8p.m.

Homegoing Service will be held on Monday, February 29, 2016 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 723 Magellan St. Gretna, LA at 10:00a.m. Pastor Larry Davis, officiating

Visitation will begin at 8:00a.m. until service time at the above named church.

Interment: Christian Social Cemetery-Gretna, LA
