Isreal Bennett, Sr.

Isreal “Coconut” Bennett, Sr. peacefully departed this life at Canon Hospice on Sunday, February 28, 2016 at the age of 66. He was a native of Marrero, LA and a resident of Westwego, LA. Isreal was a graduate of Lincoln High School and a retired employee of Avondale Ship after over 20 years as a Sandblaster/Painter. Beloved husband of Ruby Hills Bennett. Loving father of Isreal (Michelle) Bennett, Jr., Crystal Bennett (Clarence) Riley, and Christopher J. (Tia) Bennett . Son of the late Rev. Samuel C. Bennett, Sr. and Zenobia Martin Bennett. Grandson of the late Charles Bennett, Elnora Alfred Bennett, Isreal Martin and Melinda Kettle Martin. Brother of Samuel Bennett, Jr., Brenda Shumpert, and Verda Lou Briggs; also survived by 8 grandchildren, 5 brothers-in-law, 11 sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Rock of Ages B.C., Macedonia B. C., Little Zion #3 B. C., New Zion B. C. Morning Star M. C. B., Church of Christ and all neighboring churches; members of Lincoln High School Class of 1968; employees of University Medical Center, Supreme Integrated Technology, UPS and Justice for All Law Center are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Rock of Ages Baptist Church, 6533 Acre Rd. Marrero, LA on Thursday, March 3, 2016 at 10:00a.m. Pastor Gilbert Barnes, officiating Visitation will begin at 8:00a.m. until service time at the above named church.
