Gistarve P. Joseph, Sr., affectionately known as Mr. Gee and Papa, peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at the age of 89. He was a native of St. James, LA and a resident of Marrero, LA. Gistarve was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was a former employee of Johns Manville and Avondale Shipyard. Beloved husband of 57 years to the late Geneva Bartholomew Joseph. Devoted father of Mary Walker, Jean Joseph, Gistarve Joseph, Jr., John Joseph, Victoria Mayfield, Melvin (Janice) Joseph, and Marie Brown. Son of the late Welmon, Sr., and Victoria Joseph. Brother of Rev. Edward, Sr., Wilbert, Herbert, and Walter Joseph, Ethel Fisher, Earline Smallwood, Rose Miller, and the late Alvin, Welmon, Jr., Octave and Octavia Joseph. Grandfather of the late Stacy T. Johnson, Jr.; also survived by 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also priest and parishioners of St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, pastors, officers and members of Greater Mt. Nebo Baptist Church and all neighboring churches; members of Knights and Ladies of Peter Claver Council and Courts #36 and #267 are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 455 Ames Blvd. Marrero, LA on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 10:00a.m. Father Eugene Jacques, celebrant Visitation will begin at 8:00a.m.; Recitation of Rosary at 8:45a.m. Interment: Restlawn Park Cemetery-Avondale, LA.
