Elder Joan Eloise Truehill Smith peacefully departed this life on Sunday, November 27, 2016 in Las Vegas, NV at the age of 75 years. She was native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Westwego, LA. Joan was employed with the State of Louisiana where she served as the director of the Louisiana Family Planning Program. She retired in 2000 as the Administer of the Health Department for the State of Louisiana. In 1993 she became a licensed minster at Life Center Full Gospel Baptist Cathedral. Elder Smith was ordained at First United Baptist Church, where she later became Pastor. Due to illness, Elder Smith temporarily relocated to Las Vegas, NV, where she continued to serve the Lord, and founded First United Ministry of Las Vegas in 2013. Every place she entered, she brought encouragement to all who she encountered.
Beloved wife of the late William O. Smith. Loving mother of Angela Mobley, Treena Smith, Crystal Smith and the late Frank Carter. Grandmother of Kenya Mobley, Brandi (Kevin Jr.) Brown, Dominick Mobley, Alacia (Darion Jr,) Campbell, Kristin Saul, Norman Smith Jr., Javeia Riley, Frank Jr., Travon and Christopher Carter, Kirstin Smith, Divante Fortenberry, and the late Rogers Dougals Mobley III and Reggie T. Fortenberry Jr. Daughter of the late Marshall Sr. and Elizabeth Truehill. Sister of Barbara Bland, Deborah Landers, and the late Albert, Marshall Jr., Leona and Joyce Truehill, Doris LaVigne and Margaret Batiste. Mother-in-law of Rogers Mobley Jr. and Doris Carter. Godmother of Cheryl Noble, Tonya Jones, Joseph Bland Jr., Leslie Jacobs, and the late Roeshaun Batiste. Sister-in-law of Vallie Truehill; also survived by 11 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Life Center Full Gospel Baptist Cathedral, City of Love, Greater Asia Baptist Church, True Vine Baptist Church and all neighboring churches; employees of the Louisiana State Health Departments are invited to attend the Home Going Celebration at City of Love, 8601 Palmetto St., New Orleans, LA on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 10:00a.m. Bishop Lester Love, officiating; Bishop J. D. Wiley-Taylor, eulogist. Viewing will be held from 9:00a.m.-10:00a.m. ONLY at the church.
