Joseph Burse, Jr.

Joseph Burse Jr., affectionately known as “Pocket Book” departed his earthly home on Wednesday January 11, 2017 to his heavenly home to be with his King.

August 17, 1954 in New Orleans, LA Joseph was born to the late Joseph and Ernestine Burse Sr. On January 1, 1983 he married his best friend and love of his life, Bridget Denice Douse. To this union two sons were born Joseph, III and Joshua Burse.

Joseph was baptized as a young man at St. Mary Missionary Baptist church in Marrero, LA by Pastor Wilbert Tross Jr. His favorite scripture was the 23rd psalm.

Joseph worked at the department of transportation and development for 20 years and retired from Jefferson Parish Department of Fleet Management tire shop.

He took great pride in taking care of his family. Being a loving husband and devoted father. He enjoyed fishing, baseball, volleyball, throwing horseshoes and watching the Green Bay Packers. Most of all Pocketbook loved to cook. Rather at the house or cookouts. He loved boiling seafood, grilling and frying.

Pocketbook is preceded in death by his grandparents Isaiah Burse, Mary Randell and Fannie Lee; parents Joseph and Ernestine Burse Sr.; uncle Carl Burse Sr., aunt Joyce Ross of Chicago, IL; two brothers Ernest Miles and Isaiah Burse; two sisters Catherine Green and Sandra Payne; one niece Gina Payne.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 34 years Bridget Denice Burse; two daughters Tanya Savage and Carla Burse; two sons Joseph ( Kayla) Burse III and Joshua Burse; Nine grandchildren Dimitry, Tyreion and Ty’ron Savage, Joseph IV, Darius, Darien, Kailyn and Isaiah Burse, and Aaliyah Mitchell; five brothers Emile ( Ruth) McCarvy, James Spurlock Sr., Wilbert( Dana) Burse Sr., George (Lois) Burse Sr. and Don Burse Sr.; four sisters Carolyn (Albert) Nash, Geraldine Lee, Edna Jackson and Linda Cooper; three aunts Willa Bradshaw, Josephine Jenkins ,Elizabeth(Cecil) Scott of Chicago, IL; brothers and sisters in law Patrica Miles, Clifford and Joan Marie Pierre, Gary Sr. and Tina Douse; also survived by a host nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers and members of St Mary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Funeral Service at St. Mary Baptist Church, 6223 6th Ave. Marrero, LA on Friday, January 20, 2017 at 10:00a.m.

Visitation will begin at 8:00a.m. until service time at the above named church.

Interment: Restlawn Park Cemetery-Avondale, LA
