Floyd C. Richards

Floyd “Poppa” Calvin Richards, age 89, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 3, 2017 at Louisiana Continuing Care Hospital in Marrero, LA. He was a native of Marrero, LA and a resident of Westwego, LA for over 70 years. Floyd served his country as a member of the United States Army. He retired from Hunt and Wesson after 35 years as a Head Mechanic.   Floyd later became a School Bus Driver for Jefferson Parish School Board retiring in 1985 after 13 years of service. With strong work ethics and a desire to serve his community, he owned and operated a barber shop for 30 plus years. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed fishing, and hunting in his leisure time. Beloved husband of 59 years to the late Marion Rhea Richards. Father of the late Yolanda Nicole Richards. Son of the late Howard Richards and Celestine Richards Armand. Brother of Vernita R. (the late Louis Sr.) Favorite, Betty (Clarence) Williams, Diana (Donald) Jones, Richard (Tina) Hawkins, Bobby Richards, and the late Bert Ethel (late Norman Sr.) Robinson. Nephew of Eula V. Moody of Natchitoches, LA; also survived by children, grandchildren, 4 sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Historic True Vine Baptist Church, New Inspiration Missionary Baptist Church, Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service at Historic True Vine Baptist Church, 249 Sala Ave. Westwego, LA on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at 10:00a.m. Pastor Leander Johnson, officiating Viewing will be held from 8:00a.m.-10:00a.m. ONLY at the church. Interment: New Hope Cemetery-Gretna, LA
