James Alvin “Potato” Celestine peacefully entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at West Jefferson Medical Center, at the age of 66. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Marrero, LA. James was a graduate of Lincoln High School. Devoted husband of Barbara Bienemy Celestine. Father of Damieon Slocum of Providence, RI, Charvis Celestine Sr., Leshell (Allen) Williams and Bridget Brown. Grandfather of Charvis Jr., and Cobe Celestine, Ariel Williams and Miracle Moore. Son of the late Rev. Albert, Sr. and Willie Mae Russell Celestine. Brother of Genevieve Mumphrey, Michael (Dorsa), and Albertine Celestine and the late Albert (Debra) Celestine Jr. Son-in-law or the late Isiah, Sr. and Mary Campbell Bienemy. Nephew of Charles Celestine, Aldonia Priestley and Josephine Jones; also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers and members of Faith Is The Victory Christian Center, First Asia Baptist Church, Bethlehem Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Funeral Service at DAVIS MORTUARY SERVICE, 6820 WESTBANK EXPRESSWAY MARRERO, LA on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 10:00am. Pastor Jules Priestley officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:00am until service time. Interment: Restlawn Park Cemetery-Avondale, LA
