Neal Charles

Neal Charles departed this life on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at the age of 59. He was a native and resident of New Orleans, LA. Neal graduated from Northeast Louisiana State University in Monroe, LA with a degree in criminal justice. He was employed as a sergeant with the New Orleans Police Department and retired after 30 years of service.  Beloved husband of Janice Damond Charles. Devoted father of Roneka Conley. Loving son of Lizzie Charles and the late Hammond Charles. Grandson of the late Clarence and Ernestine Harrison Henry.   Brother of Trudy (Campanella) Kent, Liroy (Loretta), Anthony, Hammond (Scarlette), Markey (Della), Keith (Brenda), Brian (Sheryl), Cubie, Roxanne, Precious and the late Muchelle Charles. Son-in-law of the late Gloria Evans Jackson and Albert Damond. Brother-in-law of Albert, Joseph, and Gregory Damond, and the late Mitch Damond and Clarence Jackson, III; also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Asbury United Methodist Church, Second Baptist Church, United Fellowship FGBC, Mt. Sinai Baptist Church and all neighboring churches; employees of New Orleans Police Dept. and Marriott Hotels are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Asbury United Methodist Church, 2725 Ernest St., New Orleans, LA on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 10:00a.m. Pastor Simon Chigumira, officiating Visitation will begin at 8:00a.m. until service time at the church. Interment: Westlawn Cemetery-Gretna, LA
