Deacon Alfred “Captain Heavy” Clay, age 65, transitioned into eternal rest on Monday, May 29, 2017. He was a native of Jackson, LA and a resident of Marrero, LA. Deacon Alfred was a tugboat captain, and served as booking agent for the Electrifying Crown Seekers of Marrero. Beloved husband of 43 years to OcieJean Smith Clay. Devoted father of Brandy and Deirdre Clay. Loving grandfather of Destiny A. Jones. Son of Betty Matthews and the late Ernest Clay. Brother of George (Theresa) Matthews, Michael (Mary) Clay, Mark Hudson, Carl (Jessica) Hudson, Lawrence Hudson, Lillie Clay (John) Greely, Barbara Clay, and the late Lawrence E. Hudson. Stepbrother of Henry, Allen, and Nancy Clay, and Debra Clay Johnson. Son-in-law of Sarah Smith and the late Henry Smith Sr. Brother-in-law of Henry Jr., Antoinette, and Denise Smith, and Lynette S. Dickerson. Devoted friend of Anthony and Alice Cibilich; also survived by 5 aunts, 1 uncle, 3 godchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of First King Solomon Missionary Baptist Church, Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, Rock of Ages Baptist Church, Hickory Grove Baptist Church of Jackson, LA, Rock Zion Baptist Church of Baton Rouge, LA and all neighboring churches; employees of C&C Marine, McDonough Marine Service, and all other Marine Companies along the Harvey Canal, Jefferson Parish Public School System; members of Southern Marksmen Hunting Club, Electrifying Crown Seekers and all other Gospel Quartet Groups are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Second Highway Baptist Church, 1533 Haydel Dr. Marrero, LA on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at 10:00a.m.

Rev. Joseph J. Johnson, host pastor; Rev. Dr. Louis E. Phenix Jr., officiating Visitation will begin at 8:00a.m. until service time at the church.
