Percy Smallwood, Sr.

Percy Smallwood, Sr., age 89, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Thursday, July 13, 2017 at JoEllen Smith Living Center. He was a native and resident of Marrero, LA; for the last 14 months he resided with eldest daughter Karen and her husband Joseph in New Orleans, LA. Percy was employed as a Certified Pipefitter with Celotex, Avondale Shipyard, and Local 60, from which he retired after many years of service. Beloved husband of 69 years to Ruth Walker Smallwood. Loving and devoted father of Karen (Joseph) Matthews, Wanda Hill, Angela Carter, Lavern Smallwood, Yolanda (William) Payne, Kent Smallwood, Jeffery (Nicole) Smallwood, Randal (Deshon) Smallwood, and the late Percy Smallwood, Jr. Grandfather of the late Sterling and Jeffery Smallwood, Jr.  Son of the late Ulysses Smallwood and Clodia Favorite Smallwood. Father-in-law of Janice Smallwood. Devoted cousin of Louis “Joe Green” Celestin, whom he loved as a brother. Brother-in-law of Audrey Dixon, Myrtle Weber, and Bernadine (Major Burton) Vidal; also survived by 17 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life Service at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 1000 Walkertown Way, Marrero, LA on Monday, July 24, 2017 at 10:00a.m.
