Ruth Russell

Ruth “Gabby” Russell, age 57, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Monday, July 17, 2017 at her residence. She was a native and resident of New Orleans, LA. Ruth was a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and Southern University of New Orleans. She continued her studies earning masters degrees in Urban Education in 2008, and Counseling in 2012.  Ruth was employed as an educator with Algiers Charter School Association at McDonogh 32 Elementary School. She was a firm believer in educating our youth; she helped them to excel, especially in math which was her gift and strength. Devoted mother of Rashaad Williams. Loving grandmother of Khi. Mother-in-law of Kayla. Daughter of Shirley Mae Russell Reed and the late James Charles Russell, Sr. Stepdaughter of Walter Reed. Granddaughter of Addie Moore. Sister of Charlotte (Thomas) Hyde, Zina (Maurice) Batiste, Sylvia (Anthony) Matthews, Shirley Kim, Consuella, Aleta (Willie) , and Addie Russell, Jamie Smith, Art (Lynette) Russell, Gregory (Kathy) Russell, Taft, Dante, and Pierre (Carol) Smith, and the late Barbara R. Rillieux, Delinda R. Murray, Gigi Smith, James “Brim” Charles Russell, Jr., Ronald and Darryl Russell. Aunt of the late Kedrick Russell. Godmother of Keoka Russell and Toni Marie Hyde; also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also priest and parishioners of Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, St. Monica Catholic Church, and all neighboring churches; employees of Algiers Charter School Association, Orleans Parish School Board, Inspire Nola Charter Schools, and Archdiocese of New Orleans are invited to attend the Mass of Christina Burial at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church, 4230 South Board St., New Orleans, LA on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 10:30a.m.  Msgr. John Cisewski and Fr. Daniel Green, celebrants Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m.; Celebration of Life 10:00a.m.
