Katie Bell Dodd Smith peacefully departed this physical life surrounded by loved ones on Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at her age of 82. She was a native of New Orleans, LA and a longtime resident of Marrero, LA. The daughter of the owner of Dodd Electronic Services, Katie continued this entrepreneurial legacy by becoming a pioneer and change agent in the retail ethnic hair care industry as the co-founder and vice president of Clemalita Beauty Products, Inc. She was involved in an exploratory restaurant business venture with world-renowned entertainer James Brown, and an inaugural shareholder of the Superdome Services, Inc., and a former employee of Jefferson Parish Public Schools. A. few years age, Katie created and exercise and mobility strengthening group, The Body Movers, of which she served as lead instructor at Wynhoven Senior Apartments until her death. Katie will be remembered for her pleasant demeanor, natural beauty, and joy of living life to its fullest. Loving mother of Nedra Smith (Brian) Stewart, Dr. Benfred Clement Smith, Clemalita Keeli Smith, the late Clive Raynal Smith, and her bonus children Larry and Toni DeCuri, Bernell and Jackie Scott. Grandmother of Tennille Armani Stewart, Brian “Cruz” Stewart and Mary Kate Stewart. Great grandmother of Austin C. LaSalle and Aidan C. LaSalle. Daughter of the late Clementine Harang Dodd Honore’ and Lawrence Dodd, Jr. Stepdaughter of Odelia Ester Dodd and the late Michael Honore’. Granddaughter of the late Bella Walker Harang, Louis Jacques Harang, Lawrence Dodd, Sr. and Victoria Dodd. Sister of Donna Dodd (Sterling, Jr.) Gallien. Former wife of 35 years to the late Dr. Joseph B .Smith. Special cousin of Deanna Pollard and Beverly Wright; also survived by her friend of 63 years Mary Hogan, her road buddy, Lois Washington, 4 godchildren, 3 former sisters-in-law, 2 nephews, and a host of , cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also priest and parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church and all neighboring churches; members of NAACP, AARP, Marrero Senior Citizen Guild, Silver Sneakers, Arthritis Foundation and the Young at Heart Senior Citizen Guild of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church are invited to attend the Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic, 455 Ames Blvd. Marrero, LA on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 10:00a.m. Father Eugene Jacques, SSE, celebrant Visitation will begin at 8:00a.m.; Recitation of the Rosary 8:45a.m.; Celebration of Life 9:15a.m. Interment: Restlawn Park Mausoleum-Avondale, LA Arrangements by Davis Mortuary Service 230 Monroe St. Gretna, LA
