Sterling Ray Ventris

Sterling Ray Ventris was called home to rest with the Lord on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at the age of 45. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Meraux, LA. Sterl, as he was affectionately known to family and friends was an avid New Orleans Saints fan and volunteer coach for his community’s basketball and football league.  Loving husband of Nicole Holmes Ventris.  Devoted father of Derrionne and Derrick.  Son of Jimmette Fernandez, Rena Jr. and Gayle Ventris. Stepson of the late James Fernandez, Jr. Grandson of the late Beatrice Walker, Gertrude Gilson and Rena Ventris, Sr.  Brother of Rena (Angela) Ventriss III, Lenny (Kim) Ventris, Sheryl (Nalas) Walker, Renice (Rayfield) Robinson, Janice (Saunders) Hill, Kisha (Gerald) Harris, Janecca Ventris, Channette (Kareem Sr.) Marshall, and Shawn Armstead.  Stepbrother of Derick Pickings, Lacerne and Cleveland Smith. Nephew of the late Matthew Walker, Thurman Pierre, Harry, Earl, Lawrence, and Joyce Gilson.  Son-in-law of Arlene Holmes and the late John Holmes, Sr. Brother-in-law of John Holmes, Jr.  Godfather of the late Anastasia Higgins.  Special friend of the late Vinnie Higgins; also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.  Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Fischer Community Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Fischer Community Church, 1737 L.B. Landry Ave., New Orleans, LA on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 10:00a.m. Bishop James Nelson Brown, host pastor; Bishop Leonard Franklin, officiating  Visitation will begin at 8:00a.m. until service time at the church.  Interment: Woodlawn Park Memorial Cemetery- Westwego, LA  Arrangements by Davis Mortuary Service
