Olivia Mae F. Walker

December 25, 1918 — September 16, 2018

Olivia Mae Ferdinand Walker, age 99, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday September 16, 2018 at her residence.  She was a native of Donaldsonville, LA and a resident of Marrero, LA (Walkertown Community). She was a graduate of Xavier Preparatory High School and was employed with the Jefferson Parish School System for 30 years. Mae, as she was affectionately known, was a devout catholic who served proudly in her church and community. She was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church for 78 years and witnessed many changes within the church. During segregation Mae was an activist in the church and community for the African American parishioners that eventually led to the church being integrated.  With a desire to serve, she was involved in many ministries, which included Ministry of Holy Communion, Ministry to the Sick, Good Shepherd Ministry, and Knights of Peter Claver St. Rita Court #36, to just name a few.  For over 50 years she has opened the church doors for daily and Saturday evening mass.  Having an unwavering spirit of giving of her time and talent to the church, she was the recipient of the Archdiocese of New Orleans St. Louis Medallion.  She enjoyed a rich and plentiful life with travels throughout the United States, Europe, Middle East and Caribbean.  Beloved wife of 45 years to the late John Walker, Sr. Devoted mother of Eola Bradford, John Walker, Jr., Dwight Walker, and the late Calvin Walker, Sr.  Loving grandmother of Rachael Ann Walker Wright (Ralph), Dr. Adrienne Catherine Bradford, David Anthony Walker (Keely), Asante Michael Bradford, Melanie Theresa Bradford,  Amber Caprice Walker, Alexandria Claire Walker, Desmond Charles McFarlin Walker, Tyrone Anthony Jabari Walker (Alicia), Kiesha Noel Moreira-Walker, and Calvin Joseph Walker.  Great grandmother of the late Leora A. Wright.  Daughter of the late Wilson Ferdinand and Olivia Joseph.  Sister of the late John Ferdinand, Gertrude Woods, Myrtle Castillion, Ollie Nelson, Nuella Verrett, and Rose Jackson.  Mother-in-law of Gaines Bradford, Carole Martin Walker, Alexes LaSalle Walker, and Marion Green Walker.  Sister-in-law of Rita Ferdinand and Clara Walker.  Godmother of Glen Ray Jones; also survived by 21 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, devoted caregivers, other relatives and friends.  Relatives and friends of the family, also priest and parishioners of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Our Lady of Prompt Succor, and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church, 146 4th St. Westwego, LA on Saturday, September 22, 2018, Visitation beginning at 7:45a.m.; Recitation of the Rosary 8:00a.m; Celebration of Life Mass 9:15a.m.; with Christian Mass beginning at 10:00a.m.  Father Eugene Jacques, celebrant  Interment: St. Vincent De Paul Cemetery #2-New Orleans, LA Arrangement by Davis Mortuary Service 230 Monroe St. Gretna, LA To view and sign the guestbook, please go to www.davismortuaryservice.com
