Eddie J. Thomas

June 4, 1945 — October 6, 2018

Eddie J. Thomas, age 73, was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at his home under the watchful care of his loving wife.  He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Marrero, LA.  Eddie was a graduate of L. B. Landry High Class of 1964.  After graduation he served his country as a member of the United States Air Force.  Eddie earned a degree in Early Childhood Education from Southern University of New Orleans in 1968.  He later earned a Masters of Education from the University of New Orleans.  Eddie retired as an educator from the Orleans Parish Public School System in 2006, after over 35 years of service.  He touched and guided many lives, but was especially in tune with the community’s youth.  He leaves to cherish his memories his wife and companion of 28 years Patricia Thomas, sister Vainey Thomas Gibson of Chula Vista CA, brother, Charles Garrison and niece, LaVon Anthony of Harvey, LA, stepson, Brent Rodgers and his children, Brianne, Olivia, Madison and Brenton Price of Harvey, step daughter, Janá White and husband Jesse, and their children, Angelle Wilson, Damien Savage, and Jace White of Cedar Hill, TX, nieces: Nicole Stamps and Mary Anthony, nephews: Lucian Stamps, Adel Stamps, Theo Stamps, Julien Gibson and Lance Anthony.  Son, Derrick Thomas and grandson, Landon Thomas of New Orleans, LA; and,son, Dwayne Thomas and wife Marlene,  and  their children, Christiane and Dwayne Thomas,  Jr., of Richland TX and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and many, many, Many, MANY friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Sadie Thomas, his son, David Thomas, his brothers, Theo Willie Wilson, Charles Governor Harrell and sisters Mattie Harrell and Anna Wesley.  Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 701 Huey P. Long Ave. Gretna, LA on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 10:00a.m.  Pastor Noily Paul, Jr., officiating   Visitation will begin at 8:00a.m. until service time at the above named church.  Interment: Woodlawn Park Memorial Cemetery-Westwego, LA   Arrangements by Davis Mortuary Service 230 Monroe St. Gretna, LA To view and sign the guestbook, please go to www.davismortuaryservice.com.
