Jeannette Burkes Handy

August 20, 1941 — October 24, 2018

Jeannette Burkes Handy entered peacefully into eternal rest on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 at the age of 77.  She was a Native of Harvey, LA and a resident of Marrero, LA. Jeannette retired after many years of service as a CNA Supervisor at Stone Bridge Nursing Home and Acadian Oaks.  Wife of Sylvester Handy.  Loving mother of Janet (Craig) Butler, Mia (Bernell) Randell, Lisha Burkes, Robin Burkes (Stanley) Bell, Marketha Burkes, Mirian Burkes, Joseph (Anice) Burkes III, and Derrick Burkes.  Daughter of the late Joseph Smith, Jr. and Jeannette Lewis. Sister of Lillie Mae Butler, Evola Woods, Betty Sterling, Norma Lewis, Rose Lewis, and the late James Smith, Joe Smith, Jr., and Carol Ann Clark; also survived by 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Service at DAVIS MORTUARY SERVICE, 6820 WESTBANK EXPRESSWAY MARRERO, LA on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 10:00a.m. Visitation will begin at 8:00a.m. until service time at the above named parlor.
