Doretha Hansberry Mealancon

Doretha Hansberry Mealancon passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at residence on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at the age of 83. She was a native White Castle, LA and a resident of Marrero, LA. Beloved wife of the late Rev. Leon Mealancon. Devoted mother of Ruby (late Louis) Sheppard, Leon, III (Connie), Minister Barbara, Doris, Larry, Louis, Mary, Shirley, Lorenza, Rev. Elijah (Monica) Mealancon, Pastor Sterling (Antoinette) Mealancon, Margie (Blane) Craft, Pastor Leroy (Kimberly) Mealancon, and Minister David Anthony (Carmen) Mealancon. Daughter of the late Sterling Clarence Hansberry and Ruby Dumas Hansberry. Sister of Mary Watkin, Emelda Green, and the late Emily Watson, Robert Hansberry, Clarence “Jim” Hansberry, Jr., and Martha Allen, also survived by 31 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Progressive Church, Second Baptist Church of Los Angeles, CA and all neighboring churches; members of Louisiana and Progressive Church Morning Glory Prayer Line and Teleconference Bible Study are invited to attend the Funeral Services at Progressive Church 437 Cohen St. Marrero, LA on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at 10:00a.m.

Visitation will begin at 8:00a.m. until service time at the above named church.

Interment: Restlawn Park Cemetery-Avondale, LA.
